Phil and I have worked as a duo since the 1970’s across the U.S.A., Canada, Scandinavia, and Europe in tours and festival concerts, finding out a unique vocabulary and playing what Chet Baker told us was “ your weird shitâ€. ROGER TURNER Phil Minton played trumpet and sang with the Mike Westbrook Band in the early 60s- Then in dance and rock bands in Europe for the rest of the decade. He rejoined Westbrook in 1971 and was involved in many of his projects until the mid 1980′s. For the last forty years, Minton has been working as an improvising singer in lots of groups, orchestras, and situations, all over the place. Numerous composers have written music especially for his extended vocal techniques. Roger Turner grew up amongst the Canterbury musical life of the 1960s and has been working as an improvising percussionist, focusing on exploring a more personal percussion language since the early 1970’s. Solo work, collaborations with experimental rock musics & open-form song, extensive work with dance, film and visual artists, workshops and the hands-on politics of independent record labels and work situations, plus involvements in numerous jazz-based ensembles have all contributed to this process.
Roger has has collaborated with many of the finest european & international musicians from Annette Peacock to Phil Minton, Cecil Taylor to Keith Rowe
