‘A ROOM SOMEWHERE’ SOLO PIANO Like many of the UK’s jazz musicians Liam Noble is more appreciated abroad than at home. Recent performing highlights include a solo broadcast for the prestigious WDR station recorded live in Köln, which was broadcast across six countries (but not the UK) simultaneously. Liam Noble’s first solo recording in 20 years, ‘A Room Somewhere’ on Basho Records, reflects the eclecticism of his playing and listening experience. Encompassing attempts at playing the imaginary banjo, (“Six White Horsesâ€), adapting Miles Davis’s jazz rock style to the piano (“Directionsâ€) and revisiting catchy tunes from “My Fair Lady†and Edward Elgar, Noble improvises his way through a multitude of songs, motifs and themes with characteristic originality, patience and flair. "Noble is a supreme motivic improviser, in the manner of Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Sonny Rollins and, latterly, Brad Mehldau.†The GUARDIAN (*****)
