Alice Grant

lice Grant is a choir director, music educator, singer and music maker based in southeast London. She leads community choirs and runs workshops in homeless hostels, and teaches singing in primary schools and universities.

Alice’s open approach to music has produced a wide range of collaborations, including performing in Streetwise Opera’s The Nightingale and The Rose, conducting Goldsmiths Vocal Ensemble for Matthew Herbert’s Big Band, working with dance company H2Dance on Say Something and leading a children’s choir on Nitin Sawhney’s latest album.

Alice composes and performs her own music and currently sings with Skylla. She has performed and recorded with many artists including Fulborn Teversham, Simon Bookish, The Invisible, Serafina Steer and Leafcutter John.

Her 'Little Opera' puts story and song in the hands of children. It providse primary-aged students a place to explore drama, music, dance and design in collaboration with professional artists in the creation of their own original opera.

Inspired by her work with the Metropolitan Opera's Education Department and Little Opera San Francisco, London-based music educator and singer Claire Shaw opened the doors of Little Opera UK in March 2017 with a desire to challenge the assumption that opera is not for everyone.

At the heart of the organisation's work is the belief in the creative capacity of children  - we say YES to children's ideas!
