Xhosa Cole

Since being crowned BBC Young Jazz Musician 2018, Xhosa Cole has gone on to win Jazz Newcomer of the Year in the 2019 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, and the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year Award in 2020.  The Birmingham saxophonist has performed with the Jazzlines Ensemble, his own quartet: the CharCole Collective and in a free-er setting with Mark Sanders.

Xhosa is an embodiment of the success of jazz development programmes in Birmingham. Having grown up in Handsworth he first played the tenor saxophone at Andy Hamilton's Ladywood Community Music School.

His recent album K(no)w Them, K(no)w Us is featuring in the Jazzwise and JazzFM charts.

Now he's playing in the international league with Black Top.
