Tony Kofi Trio + 1
Darwin Suite
The
idea for this band was born when Tony was on a world tour with jazz
hip hop group US3 at the Mount Fuji Jazz festival in Japan,
when he saw the Lou Donaldson (Alto Saxophone) / Lonnie Smith
(Hammond) group and was touched by the sound of the Hammond B3
Organ, how soulful, moody, bluesy, sad and happy it could make you
feel.
Tony Kofi - saxes, Byron Wallen - trumpet, Anders Olinder - organ, Winston Clifford
- drums.

George Hogg Quintet
Five Lamps, 25 Duffield Road, Derby
A protege of Jon Eno and EMYJO, George Hogg came to the attention of Derby Jazz fans as a fourteen year old when he
stepped out of the EMYJO trumpet section to play a remarkable quartet set with Steve Berry and Mark Lockheart as part
of the first Derby Jazz/EMYJO collaboration in 2001. He soon became a familiar face at Derby Jazz gigs, both as a
player in Midnight Blue and as a fan, learning all he could by listening to the UK's best players. |

Stan Tracey Trio with Guy Barker
Darwin Suite, Derby Assembly Rooms
Stan Tracey, piano; Andy Cleyndert, bass Clark Tracey, drums; Guy Barker, trumpet
Pianist Stan Tracey may be a legend, but the Godfather of British Jazz isn’t sitting on
his laurels. His originality and invention are undimmed, and his new
quartet featuring Guy Barker on trumpet, Andy Cleyndert on bass and
Clark Tracey at the drums is as exciting as any he's ever led.
Guy Barker has been working with the Traceys since the early eighties when he joined Clark's quintet
and appeared with Stan's octet at one of the first Derby Jazz promotions over twenty years ago.
Since then he's contributed to Stan's sextet and big band, as well as to five Tracey albums while
becoming a major international star in his own right

Tina May with the Nikki Iles Trio
Guildhall Theatre, Market Place, Derby
Tina May, vocals
Nikki Iles, piano; Andy Cleyndert, bass;
Winston Clifford, drums.
A favourite with Derby's jazz audience, Tina May
returns together with her regular pianist Nikki Iles. Tina's choice of
songs is always interesting. We look forward to hearing her perform
standards and some more surprising numbers. Nikki is a virtuoso of the
keyboard who plays with both the drive and sensitivity that make her one
of the great accompanists.

Tony Kofi with EMYJO
Darwin Suite, Derby Assembly Rooms
A welcome return for multi-saxophonist Tony Kofi, who we last saw leading
the BBC Jazz Award winning Monk Liberation Front exactly one year ago. This time he is guesting with
Derby's own East Midlands Youth Jazz
Orchestra - one of the country's best big bands - led by Jon Eno.
In preparation for this concert Tony will be rehearsing the band in his
arrangements of Thelonious Monk tunes and some new original material.
Since
its sell out concert with Alan Barnes at last year's Derby Jazz
Week EMYJO's reputation has continued to grow with highly acclaimed
concerts at Wigan and Cleethorpes jazz festivals, and most recently
at the prestigious IAJE (International Association for Jazz
Education) conference in New York.
