Was at the Acoustic Ladyland gig with a colleague. We both
enjoyed the main set very much - different and great fun.
The Tom Cawley solo, though, was a big disappointment.
He's clearly a very talented young guy - but there seemed to be
no substance at all to the composition, certainly nowhere near
enough to sustain 30 minutes or so. Felt like he was a bit
wrapped up in the technology.
But still - that's the only disappointment I've had so
far in all the Derby Jazz gigs I've been to. And I think it's
really important that you give people like Tom the opportunity
to try something different. So no criticisms and no complaints.

Many thanks for staging the BBC Big Band concert
April 15. A fantastic night with the band in great form, one of the
best gigs I've seen in all genres.
I fear I'll be hard pressed to
top that performance. Having said that, it will be fun finding out !
On a different note, do you have a network of local musicians ? As a
drummer for 25 years, I'm looking to explore Jazz, Latin, Funk and
Fusion styles with some like minded individuals. Nothing too
serious, just hoping to hook up for some pleasure and local gigs
potentially.
Keep up the good work and thanks for
all your efforts.
